To all, Wexford Bob --------- March 20, 2009
What is going on in Pennsylvania? (It is good to know that Washington doesn’t have the monopoly on “nuts.”)
This week our Pittsburgh local Representative to the House of Representatives Mike Turzai got into an exchange of words with Governor Rendell, when Representative Turzai called upon the governor to reduce the state’s 3.07 percent personal income tax to 2.99 percent.
As reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the governor responded saying that Rep. Mike Turzai “must be nuts” for seeking a state tax cut when the state needs more revenue.
Turzai fired back, “I think the governor is nuts for having overspent the last six years. He increased spending by 40 percent while the inflation rate increased 20 percent. He’s absolutely nuts for mortgaging the future of our kids and grandchildren. He’s borrowed over $6 billion that we will pay back to the tune of $10 billion, all to satisfy his insatiable appetite (for spending).”
This is the typical state of affairs. When big spenders overspend, they expect fiscal conservatives to be the “tax collectors for the welfare state.” This allows the big spenders to “balance the budget” in the name of fiscal responsibility so they can engage in the next spending spree and blame tax increases on others.
When Rep. Turzai refused to be the “tax collector for the welfare state” the Governor was reduced to do what “fifth grade bullies” always do ---- name calling and bullying.
If you agree you might send Rep. Turzai an email to thank him for standing up for taxpayers.
His email address is mturzai@pahousegop.com.
Example:
Dear Representative Turzai,
Thank you for speaking out against Gov. Rendell.
Rendell’s “must be nuts” comment illustrates how bankrupt his policies are. Rather than defend excessive taxes and outrageous spending he resorts to name calling.
