The bill now goes back to the House where it will be modified in committee and presented to the House for an up or down vote. It is possible that some Congressmen in vulnerable Districts may be influenced by overwhelming response from their constituents and you are encouraged to continue contacting your representative to express your displeasure with the current bill. The House is scheduled to be back in session on January 12, 2010 to begin the process. To find your Congressman's contact info see:

The two Democrat Congressmen from Pennsylvania who voted against this bill the first time around are particularly important to remain opposed to it (all the Republicans from PA are strongly in the opposed camp).
Jason Altmire of the 4th Congressional District voted "NO" in December, but his aides report that he now says that he likes the Senate Bill "a lot better" than what he voted against. He may end up voting "NO" to appease the electorate in his somewhat conservative district, as he is expecting to receive a strong challenge from conservative Keith Rothfus http://www.keithpa4.com/. Tim Holden of the 17th District also voted against the first bill. In good news, his aides report that they see nothing in the Senate bill that would change his vote to a "YES". To encourage Tim to hold the line and vote "NO" visit his website for contact information: http://holden.house.gov/ |
